The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić, met in New York with Chaloka Beyani, Special Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General for the Prevention of Genocide. It was emphasized that the prevention of genocide must not only be a political issue, but also a question of civilizational values that characterize every meaningful human being.

The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Komšić, thanked Beyani for everything that the Office of the Special Advisor does, especially for the support provided during the adoption of the Resolution on the Genocide in Srebrenica by the UN General Assembly.

He emphasized the importance of continuing the clear and decisive stance of the international community in condemning genocide, recalling that after the Holocaust, humanity believed that such crimes would never happen again.

“Nevertheless, genocide was committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and unfortunately, today we are witnessing its repetition in Gaza,” said Komšić.

Finally, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Komšić, said that the best path to preventing genocide is the truth – no matter how difficult and bitter it may be.

Special Advisor Beyani said that he had previously visited Bosnia and Herzegovina and was familiar with the developments in our country, emphasizing that this further obliges his Office to continue providing support to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also emphasized his readiness for further cooperation in strengthening international mechanisms for the prevention of genocide and cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
