The Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OSBiH) today represent a factor of stability and security. In the past 17 years, the members of the Armed Forces have made an immeasurable contribution to the fulfillment of the strategic goals of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina on its way to Euro-Atlantic integration by carrying out tasks in the country and abroad, as well as with their own professionalism, knowledge and perseverance.

This was highlighted tonight at the solemn academy on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the formation and the Day of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina – December 1, held in the Hall of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo.

Member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić greeted the participants of the gathering, on behalf of the Presidency of BiH as the supreme command and in his own name and pointed out that Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to remember the contribution of those who invested a lot of knowledge, will and effort in the process of establishing the Armed Forces of BiH.

He underlined that the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina represent a factor of stability and security in the entire country, as well as a reliable partner for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and state institutions, as well as allies on the international level.

At the same time, he recalled numerous examples of assistance to the population of BiH as part of civil-military cooperation, that is, in response to natural disasters and similar challenges.

He emphasized that this was preceded by the participation of the state of BiH at the NATO Summit in Madrid as a country that is in the process of Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

He also said that without a strong Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the state itself cannot count on the protection of territorial integrity and sovereignty.

“Stable and strong Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina are the main guarantee of the survival and stability of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a lever that must never be called into question by anything. At a time when, unfortunately, wars are again being waged in Europe, and when individual countries are once again committing aggression in violation of international law, the importance of the Armed Forces is truly first-rate,” said Komšić, congratulating the Day of the Armed Forces of BiH.

On the same occasion, the participants of the ceremony were addressed by the Minister of Defense of BiH Sifet Podžić and the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of BiH, Colonel General Senad Mašović, expressing their satisfaction with everything that marked the reform of the defense sector of BiH, emphasizing the priorities in terms of Euro-Atlantic integration.

In addition to the members of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović and the highest officials of the MoBiH and the Armed Forces of BiH, the solemn academy on the occasion of the Day of the Armed Forces of BiH and the 17th anniversary of their formation was also attended by representatives of public, political and cultural life in BiH, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and officials of international organizations, numerous guests and dignitaries.
