The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met today in Washington with the Senior Official of the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States of America, Brendan Hanrahan.

Konaković thanked the United States of America for its continued support to Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in strengthening institutions, implementing reforms, and preserving sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During the meeting, Konaković emphasized the need to overcome political divisions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and emphasized that the success of the reform processes depends on the joint and responsible action of all institutions.

He recalled that the political situation in BiH remains burdened by blockades and obstructions that slow down the work of institutions and affect stability, and emphasized that it is necessary to overcome these challenges in order to strengthen the institutions and credibility of the state, as well as ensure progress on the European and Euro-Atlantic path.

The Minister informed Hanrahan that for some time now, there has been an orchestrated campaign by secessionist actors and their lobbyists aimed at spreading false narratives about alleged attacks by Muslims on Christians and the threat to their rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Speaking about economic priorities, Minister Konaković emphasized that it is of crucial importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina to strengthen the economy by attracting new investments, creating a stable and predictable business environment, and ensuring greater transparency in decision-making processes.

In this context, the Minister particularly highlighted strategic infrastructure projects such as the Southern Gas Interconnection, which, in addition to energy security, also carry strong development potential for the domestic economy and open up new opportunities for cooperation with American partners.

Hanrahan emphasized the clear and long-term commitment of the United States to preserving the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that peace and stability in BiH and the Western Balkans are of strategic importance to Washington.

He recalled the importance of cooperation between domestic political actors on reforms and strengthening institutions.

Continuing the conversation, Hanrahan expressed support for projects that contribute to the economic and energy security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the strategically important Southern Gas Interconnection.

He emphasized that diversification of energy sources is a key element for increasing the independence, stability and resilience of the state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH announced.
