Two suspects who tried to set fire to the construction site of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian mosque in the German city of Essen have been detained.

In a statement from the Essen police, it was stated that on the evening of Friday, January 19, a fire broke out at the construction site of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s mosques in Karnap district.

The investigation established that the fire on the mosque structure was caused by arson, and two suspects aged 18 and 19 were detained.

It was reported that the police found two lighters and a swastika sign on the spot.

There is speculation that the suspects may have ties to outlawed far-right groups.

The mosque building did not burn, but it suffered damage to the windows and doors where the fire was set.
