With the closing of the polls on Sunday in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the 2026 General Elections have ended, and the first results are expected around 8:00 p.m., when the press conference of the Central Election Commission (CEC) will be held.

In this year’s elections, specific election technologies were used for the first time, including biometric voter identification, ballot scanners and rapid transmission of election results.

By 5 p.m., 32.20 percent of registered voters had voted, according to the official report of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The CEC stated that polling stations where a delay in opening was recorded will be opened in proportion to the time of the delay and the queues in front of the polling station.

Elections were held for the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, the president and vice-presidents of the Republika Srpska entity, the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska and cantonal assemblies in the Federation of BiH entity.

Polling stations were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. According to data from the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 3,408,517 voters were registered in the Central Voter List for the 2026 General Election, as of August 20, 2026.

48,078 voters are registered outside Bosnia and Herzegovina, of which 45,457 will vote by mail, while 2,621 voters are registered to vote in diplomatic and consular missions of BiH.

A total of 5,569 polling stations were established in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including 5,121 regular polling stations and 385 mobile teams. Voting will also be possible in 20 diplomatic and consular missions of BiH in 13 countries.

Bosnia and Herzegovina declared its independence on March 1, 1992, and the first post-war elections were held on September 14, 1996, Klix.ba writes.
