The Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden was opened ten years ago and has grown into an important tourist attraction, visited by nearly four million people so far.

It is a space of 7.600 square meters of garden and 3.500 square meters of walkways enclosed in glass.

It is designed to imitate a tropical ecosystem with a constant air temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and 80 percent humidity.

The complex is home to about 20.000 individuals from 40 butterfly species, while the lush vegetation contains 195 plant species.

The chief biologist of the Tropical Garden, Turgut Tus, says that it is the first such garden in Turkey and that, among other things, its goal is to raise awareness about the importance of nature conservation.

“This place is truly an interactive museum. Visitors ultimately arrive at the Butterfly Museum, where they have the opportunity to learn more about them. We also hold educational classes on insects. Our instructor friends provide theoretical information to school groups that come by appointment,” said Tus.
