Kos: BiH Is Drifting Further Away from the European Path

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated today that an increasing drift away from the European path is evident in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Presenting the 2026 enlargement package before the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Kos noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina has yet to adopt key reforms required on its European path.

She pointed out that the work of the executive and legislative branches in BiH continues to be hindered by the lack of a functional ruling coalition and the use of divisive rhetoric, while anti-EU narratives have intensified ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Kos emphasized that, following the elections on October 4, the authorities in BiH must demonstrate a commitment to taking prompt, relevant steps to advance on their path toward the EU.
