Kosarac: Documentation is being carefully prepared for Confrontation with Croatia in the Trgovska Gora Case

Trgovska Gora must not be a location for the storage or disposal of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel, and documentation is being carefully prepared for a confrontation with Croatia in Geneva in May, said Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Staša Košarac.

“Our arguments are the result of research conducted on the territory of the Federation of BiH and Republika Srpska, as well as credible consultations with an international law firm from Paris,” Košarac emphasized.

Košarac stated that in the case of Trgovska Gora, Croatia is, among other things, violating the Espoo and Aarhus Conventions, which the competent authorities have been notified of, along with evidence and arguments, with the aim of proving that Čerkezovac on Trgovska Gora does not meet any criteria for the safe storage or disposal of radioactive waste.

“The law is on our side,” emphasized Košarac.

Košarac noted that a confrontation with Croatia is expected in May before the Espoo Convention Committee in Geneva regarding the Trgovska Gora case.

“Our team, consisting of representatives of all competent institutions in BiH, together with the international law firm “Laborde Law” from Paris, is maximally engaged and carefully preparing the argumentation,” Košarac emphasized.

He stated that, based on legal arguments, the aim is to prove that Čerkezovac on Trgovska Gora does not meet any criteria for the safe storage or disposal of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.

He added that the competent Committee of the Aarhus Convention has been informed that Croatia has violated this convention, which guarantees citizens the right to access information, participation in decision-making and judicial protection in environmental matters.

Košarac stated that at the same time, the Committee’s recommendation regarding Croatia’s compliance with the Aarhus Convention for the disputed project on Trgovska Gora has been requested.

According to him, by activating international mechanisms and conventions, the aim is to internationalize this problem and put it in the focus of competent international bodies.

“I would especially like to express my gratitude to the governments and relevant ministries of the RS and FBiH, as well as all members of the Expert Team, local structures, NGOs and the academic community, who make an immeasurable contribution to our fight against the construction of the controversial facility on Trgovska Gora. We will not give up,” Košarac said on Instagram.
