The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, met today in Sarajevo with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain, Jose Manuel Albares Bueno.
Chairperson Kristo pointed out that bilateral relations are good and friendly, but that there is room for improvement of cooperation, especially economic. She expressed her belief that economic cooperation will improve in the coming period and expressed her special gratitude to Spain for its continuous and strong support for the integration processes of our country.
In the conversation, Chairperson Kristo emphasized the importance of Minister Bueno’s visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina ahead of the start of Spain’s presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1, 2023, which is a strong encouragement for the continuation of reform processes and progress towards the EU. She emphasized BiH’s unquestionable commitment to the European path and emphasized that the priority of the work of the BiH Council of Ministers is the fulfillment of 14 key priorities from the EC Opinion, respect for all democratic values and harmonization with the EU acquis.
Minister Bueno congratulated Chairperson Kristo on her appointment, wished her success in her work and emphasized Spain’s unquestionable support for the integration processes of our country, especially the strengthening of the coordination mechanism. He added that cultural, political and economic relations need to be strengthened on a bilateral level. He emphasized that during the Spanish presidency of the European Union, Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is, the Western Balkans, will remain the focus of Spanish European policy in the context of the enlargement process.
During the meeting, opinions were exchanged on global security challenges such as the war in Ukraine and illegal migration. Chairperson Krišto emphasized the importance of harmonizing policies in BiH with common European foreign and security policies.
