French football star Kylian Mbappe will have to give a statement to the Swedish police as part of the investigation into rape allegations, the French television channel “RMC Sport” reports.

Mbappe will be asked to testify “due to the nature of the case” and will be allowed to do so remotely.

Sweden’s chief prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into Mbappe over rape allegations, following numerous Swedish media reports that the French soccer star was a suspect.

Mbappe’s lawyer Marie-Alix Sanu-Bernard said two days agothat her client plans to file a defamation lawsuit.

“He is stunned to hear that this could be about him. He prefers to go to training and has asked my office not to leave things as they are, because it is impossible to allow you to be slandered and smeared in this way,” she said.

The Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet” previously reported that the alleged rape was reported to the police on October 12th, but happened two days earlier.

Dnevnik did not reveal the identity of the person filing the lawsuit, and the newspaper “Ekspresen” later announced that it was 25-year-old Kylian Mbappe.

Mbape was visiting friends in Stockholm at the time of the incident and was staying at the hotel where the alleged rape took place.
