Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia recognizes that there is no easy solution to the Ukrainian war and has no illusions.
“We have not had and currently have no illusions about the prospects for an easy solution to the Ukrainian crisis,” Lavrov said in an interview.
Lavrov stressed that the crisis can be “resolved only in the context of an agreement on reliable security and stability in Europe,” which would reflect Russia’s interests and the interests of all other countries.
The Russian foreign minister also said that Moscow has no illusions about the changes that will come with the coming to power of the Donald Trump administration in the United States.
He said that the principles formulated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis are not preconditions, but are based on international law.
“We have never abandoned negotiations, but we must see serious, concrete proposals when they are presented to us,” Lavrov said.
Regarding the ceasefire currently being discussed by the West and Ukraine, Lavrov said that Russia needs reliable, legally binding agreements that would eliminate the root causes of the conflict.
