At the end of this week, on May 28th to be precise, the Law on the Control and Restricted Use of Tobacco, Tobacco Products, and Other Smoking Products of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) will begin to be implemented (“Official Gazette of FBiH”, number 38/22).

This is a Law that was adopted at the end of April last year, which prescribes the prohibition of smoking in all closed public spaces, the workplace, and in public transport, as well as in private means of transport in which minors are present.

Moreover, this law, with the aim of protecting and improving the health of the population, regulates, among other things, measures to ban and limit the use of tobacco, tobacco products, and other smoking products and prohibit their advertising, promotion, and sponsorship, as well as the prevention of access by minors to these products.

The Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs, which is responsible for the supervision of the implementation of the aforementioned law, announced that the Law stipulates that the Minister of Health will issue implementing regulations that will regulate the conditions for special smoking rooms in terms of exceptions to the smoking ban from of Article 7 of the Law, and in this sense, it was agreed to hold meetings of competent authorities with the Federal Ministry of Health.

“In accordance with Article 32, the supervision of the application of the law is carried out by the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs through the competent federal inspectors and the cantonal authorities for inspection affairs, through the competent cantonal inspectors,” the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs explained.
