Lawyer: There is no Reason to order Detention to former Sarajevo Mayor

The Municipal Court in Sarajevo has 24 hours to issue a Decision on determining a one-month custody for the former mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka. The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor’s Office, represented by prosecutor Darko Soldat, cited the possibility of leaving the country because he is still the ambassador in Qatar and that he can influence the testimony of witnesses as the basis for ordering custody.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the CS stated that certain individuals had already been threatened at the behest of the suspect.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the CS accuses Skaka of having committed the criminal acts of abuse of position, unscrupulous work in the service and falsification of an official document, while the defense claims that everything was done according to the law.

Skaka is under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office due to several criminal-legal actions during the term of office of the mayor of Sarajevo.

“We believe that there is no reasonable suspicion that a criminal offense has been committed. We believe that there is no reason to order detention, but I do not want to influence the honorable court with my statement in any way. It should make its decision, and any statement that would concern on the merits, it is considered an influence on the court,” said Abdulah Skaka’s lawyer Senka Nožica.
