Meteorologist Sladic: Polar Cold Front Brings Sharp Temperature Drop, Snow and Traffic Disruptions in BiH

A very cold mass of polar origin from the area of Greenland will descend towards the Gulf of Genoa on Wednesday and in the evening hours will form a field of low air pressure with an associated cold frontal disturbance that will affect Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday, meteorologist Nedim Sladić said.

According to Sladić, the system will move towards the Adriatic Sea, which in Bosnia and Herzegovina will primarily mean increased south and southwest winds, but also the influx of moist and warm Mediterranean air. In the background, cold air of polar origin is increasingly penetrating from the northwest. These are exactly the ideal reception when we can expect more intense precipitation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, since they displace warm air from the free surface in the free atmosphere and replace it with cold air.

As this change in weather will be quite pronounced, and the drop in temperature quite sharp, Sladić says that it should be pointed out that first on Thursday morning, in the clash of warm air from the south and southeast, and additional from the northwest, the rain, which will be quite strong, will turn into sleet and snow, quite thick, and a strong wind from the north and northwest direction will come to the higher mountain thickets, creating snow swirls.

“So we expect greater difficulties in moving traffic over mountain passes. If someone goes on a trip through such areas, do not go on the trip without winter equipment at any cost,” warns Sladić.

Rain will initially fall across the rest of our country, but as the night approaches and cold air moves further east, rain is expected to change to sleet and snow in central eastern and southeastern areas Friday night.

This system that will move across the Adriatic further to the east conditions this change in weather, staying over our area during Friday, so that the circulation of moist air continues so that this time more precipitation is expected over the eastern and central mountain areas and further to the northwest, including northeastern Bosnia.

As the air temperature will be lower than usual for this time of year, precipitation will be in the form of sleet and sleet in areas above 400 meters, and mostly rain and sleet in the lower areas, Sladić said.
