Laying of the Foundation Stone for the Museum Lapidarium soon

MuseumOn the occasion of laying the foundation stone for the construction of the museum lapidarium in Tomislavgrad, which is announced forthe 11th April at 12 am, the director of the Franciscan Museum Tomislavgrad father Ante Pranjic emphasized the importance of lapidarium for preservation of monuments and presentation of areas of Duvno from ancient times to the present day.

“A significant number of found stone monuments from the Illyrian times, through a rich Roman times, to the Croatian past and present, impose the obligation and the need to Franciscan Museum in Tomislavgrad to build a lapidary and preserve, exhibit and present monuments to the public,” as stated from the Franciscan Museum Tomislavgrad.

“This institution will be able to unite and evaluate the cultural and historical value of the area of Duvno, and beyond,” as said in the statement.

“Lapidary is a place from which will come encouragement and concern about our rich heritage written in stone, rich traditional legacy of this city and the area of Duvno. It will also be a place that will improve the cultural values of our homeland, and in this regard educational work on the widest sections of society. With the realization of lapidary, our museum and our Duvno will receive modern, interesting and educational exhibition of stone monuments that will provide an overview of the historical and cultural movement of our area,” said Fra Pranjic.

Lapidarium is planned to be constructed between two already existing objects on the ground next to the Franciscan Museum, and near the Basilica of St. Nikola Tavelic in Tomislavgrad.
