constituional-court-bihSecond-instance Criminal council of the Cantonal Court in Bihac, at yesterday’s hearing, acquitted of charges Hasan Icanovic, called Hans, a former member of the 505th Buzim Brigade of the 5th Corps of the Army of BiH to have committed a war crime against prisoners of war.

It was pointed out that Ičanović is acquitted of a criminal offense of war crimes against prisoners of war because the prosecution failed to prove a crime for which he is charged.

According to the Trial Chamber, the crime was committed on 25th  December 1994 on the Latića Glavici, during the conflict between the Army of BiH and the members of the National Defence, when 25 members of Abdic’s forces were captured.

“It is indisputable that the incident occurred and that two members of the National Defense, Huse Kolupčić and Fikret Kovacevic, were killed. But the prosecution witnesses did not see who shot Fikret Kovacevic. From the testimony of witnesses, the Court could not conclude that the accused committed murders, and the Trial Chamber took a liberating verdict, ” said Jasminka Karabegović, the presidency of the Council.

Appeal to the verdict can be made within 15 days after it is submitted to the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
