On 20 January 2020, COMEUFOR, Major General Reinhard Trischak, took time out to congratulate a solider from the EUFOR Multinational Battalion, based at Camp Butmir, who won the 2nd Unusual Marathon, Sarajevo.

Warrant Officer Michael Baumgartner, 43, took part in the 42.2km long race on Sunday 19 January 2020, completing the course in a time of 3 hours and 3 minutes. The race started at ‘Sniper Alley’, went along the Spring of the River Bosna and ended at the Goat’s Bridge.

Michael said:

“I would never have expected such a great result because it was very cold and my running preparations were far less than usual. But I am very proud of my win and that I was able to represent EUFOR with dignity.”

All the proceeds from the entry fees for the race were donated to a very good cause, a programme supporting young athletic talent in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
