The citizens of Bijeljina voted against the impeachment of the mayor of Bijeljina, Ljubiša Petrović (SDS) yesterday, according to data from the party’s election headquarters.
Based on the data in the SDS headquarters, 73.77 polling stations were processed, and 67.78 percent or 22,917 citizens registered on the voter’s list voted against recalling Petrović.
31.51 percent or 10,658 citizens voted for the impeachment, reports BN.
Ljubiša Petrović, the mayor of Bijeljina, said last night that this is “another great national victory”.
The acting president of SDS, Milan Miličević, emphasized that the citizens of Bijeljina voted in the referendum against the impeachment of the mayor Ljubiša Petrović.
Miličević stated that, according to these data, 68.11 percent of voters voted against the recall, 31.13 percent voted “for”, while 0.76 percent of the ballots were invalid. 112,000 voters had the right to vote in the referendum in Bijeljina.
The referendum in Bijeljina is the first that was held by the new Ordinance on impeachment, passed in the National Assembly of the RS at the end of last year.
The impeachment of the mayor was initiated by 25 councilors of the City Assembly on February 8 and was supported by the broad People’s Coalition “Let’s Move Bijeljina”, led by the SNSD.
The leader of SNSD, Milorad Dodik, said that he accepts the results of the referendum, but the entity authorities will continue to invest in the development of Bijeljina despite this.
