The most famous fan of the Spanish national football team, Manuel Cáceres Artesero, known as Manolo, has died at the age of 76, the Spanish national team announced today.

“One of our most loyal fans, who was with us in good times and in bad, has passed away. We know that you will continue to resonate in our hearts. Rest in peace, Manolo. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” a message posted on the team’s official website read, along with a photo of Manolo with his signature bass drum.

Manolo had been a supporter of the “Red Furies” since the 1982 World Cup, which was hosted by Spain, and was present at the historic victory in the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa.

The last match he watched live was against the Netherlands on March 23rd of this year, when Spain won 5:4 on penalties (3:3 in regulation), advancing to the semi-finals of the Nations League against France.
