How many Migrants are expected to arrive in BiH over the next 15 Days?

According to the data of the Service for Foreign Affairs of BiH, around 1, 000 migrants should arrive in our country in the following 15 days, as released by the official UN institutions.

The UN Agency for Migration stated that they support the Government of BiH (Council of Ministers) through the financing mechanism for solving the urgent needs that are result of an increased number of migrants and asylum seekers.

On ReliefWeb, the official website of the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, was noted that BiH has recorded an increase in the number of migrants who are entering BiH from Montenegro, as well as from several border crossings with Serbia, since the end of 2017.

During the year of 2017, a total of 755 people were arrested during their illegal attempts to enter BiH. In comparison, this number amounted to 240 people in the year of 2016. The data from January and February 2018 confirm the trend that members of the Border Police of BiH are facing with, considering the fact that 520 persons were registered during illegal entry into our country in these last two months.

BiH does not have sufficient capacities because all the accommodation centres are full, which forces asylum seekers to find some alternative accommodation on their own. It was also stated that numerous non-governmental organizations, citizens and mosques are helping migrants.

This population became especially noticeable in certain areas including the center of Sarajevo, the municipality of Ilidza, and in a somewhat smaller number in areas near border crossings, such as Velika Kladusa, Visegrad and Trebinje.

On the official page of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is stated that more than 1,000 people is expected to arrive in BiH in the next 15 days, according to the Director of the Service for Foreign Affairs of BiH.
