As part of the workshop ‘Mapping Open Spaces and Abandoned Buildings in Sarajevo’, today in Sarajevo members of the Association for Culture and Art CRVENA and LIFT spatial initiatives mapped areas live in order to establish the condition of the city’s public space and the formation of joint space.
Nedim Mutevelić and Ervin Prašljivić, members of LIFT spatial initiative led the workshop as part of the program ‘Gradologija’.
‘’Through the website www.gradologija.ba, we have already started the process of mapping, which we are doing live today, by connecting open spaces and abandoned buildings with the help of QR codes and ‘smart’ phones. So, the areas that are identified with a label should be mapped simultaneously on the interactive online map’’, said Nedim Mutevelić to Fena.
He said that at this moment he cannot say how many such spaces and objects there are in the capital of B&H, due to which members of the Associations CRVENA and LIFT divided themselves into groups, and at their own discretion began exploring the unrealized and hidden potential of Sarajevo in order to ‘’create a greater quality of life in the city’’.
‘’If we start to think what are these abandoned buildings in the immediate vicinity, we will not find them, but if we go for a walk in which we focus our perception on this, we will certainly find them. So, tomorrow we will organize a walk “Alipašinski trokut”, led by Boriša Mraović from the starting point in front of the RTV Doma Sivi Dom’’, said Mutevelić.
The basic idea of the workshop, as well as the program, is to ‘’see how many abandoned objects are there, how they are used, who owns them and why are they not used’’, said Director of Association CRVENA Danijela Dugandžić- Živanović.
‘’On the other hand, we want to know what citizens imagine what might work in these spaces. From private experience, our visions for such spaces is to use them as gallery spaces or working spaces for organization, which could improve their content, not only for themselves, but for the community also’’, said Dugandžić- Živanović.
Gradologija examines and discusses the meaning, function and relationship of public space and joint space in the city, the political role of space and the establishment of a platform through which it would be possible to critically interrogate the role of citizens, professionals, administrative authorities and expert bodies in defining the goals, parameters and dynamics of urban development.
