Today, the City Council of the City of Sarajevo made a decision to erect a memorial plaque to Marko Didoi Markan at the location where he often stayed, near the Emperor’s Bridge.

Marko Didoi, the son of an Italian and a Bosnian woman, better known as Markan, sold newspapers on the streets of Sarajevo for years.

Residents of Sarajevo, of all social classes knew how to go to buy a newspaper, because he always had some special story, anecdote or current affairs. Markan followed everything from politics to music, but he loved sports the most.

The City of Sarajevo will undertake all activities to obtain the necessary consents and approvals for erecting the Monument, as well as the financing itself.

The commemorative plaque will be placed on the stone wall of the left bank of the Miljacka riverbed up to the Emperor’s Bridge.

The monument will contain an appropriate text so that future generations will know the reason for placing the memorial plaque, and remember Marko Didoi Markan, Klix.ba reports.
