Eighteen year old Ajla Džanko is a successful BiH athlete, member of the Athletic club ‘Sarajevo’ and BiH national team. In her career she won several medals and she holds several records. In an interview to klix.ba she talked about her career, athletics, her achievements and her plans.
She said that she started doing athletics because she was a hyper-active child, and since her entire family is oriented towards sport, she knew she’d end up being a sportswoman herself. She noted that she started training skiing and later she started training athletics and it’s been five years since she’s a member of AC ‘Sarajevo’.
Džanko said that her role-models are all athletes that work a lot in order to achieve good results adding that she had an opportunity to train with top-class athletes and the wish to be just like them is very motivating. She added that her favourite athletes are Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Usain Bolt, and added that overall role model is Janica Kostelić, whose hard work and persistence led her to become a queen of her sport.
She added that at age 12 she became part of senior BiH team and competed at the club championship of Europe and won the bronze medal. She also holds state records at 60, 100 and 200 m in the class of juniors, and this year she broke the record at 60 m in the hall, which is 7,96. In 2010 she was proclaimed the most promising athlete of Sarajevo Canton and won twice at the German Fair Play Camp.
She said that athletics in BiH should be more popular and that should be made through seminars and projects, because many are not familiar with athletics, and it is a basis for every sport.
In future, she said, she hope to be health and to continue participating at competitions, and in August she’ll compete at the European Junior Tournament in Rieti.
