SA I SORENSENThe Head of the EU Delegation and Special Representative of the EU to BiH Ambassador Peter Sorensen and Head of the Mission of the EU to BiH met yesterday with the Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić in the EU building in Sarajevo.

Mayor Komšić presented the future project plans of the city administration, among which the priorities are the City Hall, Youth Olympics Games in 2017 and the “Sarajevo-European Bridge of Culture 2014”.

Ambassador Sorensen and Heads of the EU Mission welcomed the efforts of the Mayor of Sarajevo in improving cooperation with the Mayors of Eastern Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar.

Speaking of the support of various projects of the EU in BIH, Ambassador Sorensen stressed the importance of the protection of cultural heritage.

From 2008 until now, the EU allocated 13 million euros from the program of IPA and PHARE for the restoration of the cultural heritage in BIH.

So far, the EU has ensured more than eight million euros for co-financing the reconstruction of Sarajevo City Hall, which should be finished by the end of June 2014.

Also, the EU is financing the restoration of the cultural heritage of Stolac, bridges, mills and the old town of Vidoški, City Hall in Novi Grad and Kastel in Banja Luka.

“All of these buildings are of great importance, not only for BIH and South East Europe. They are part of a wider European history’’, said Ambassador Sorensen.

Head of the EU Mission to BiH meet regularly with officials of various levels of government in BIH in order to get first-hand information on various issues, announced the EU Delegation to BIH.
