The meeting of the Task Force Combating Human Trafficking and Illegal Immigration, which brings together representatives of judicial institutions and law enforcement agencies from the state level, both Entities and Brčko District of BiH, was held in the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Current issues in the segment of the fight against illegal migration, smuggling of persons and human trafficking for the purpose of exploitation of victims were discussed at the meeting.

There has been an increase in the number of cases concerning smuggling of illegal migrants, caused in part by the increased influx of migrants in BiH.  Law enforcement agencies are investing maximum of their efforts to document and prosecute persons using the difficult situation and position of migrants in order to obtain unlawful property gain.

In the past few months, several operative actions have been carried out detecting organized groups of persons perpetrating criminal offenses of smuggling of persons, who have smuggled a large number of migrants and have obtained unlawful property gain.

The Task Force also discussed the activities undertaken in the fight against human trafficking and illegal migration in BiH, as well as international operations and cooperation in the area of documenting, detecting and prosecuting these crimes at the international level.
