Mehmed Pajt: the Most Important Date for all Nations and Ethnicities in BiH

bih flagMehmet Pajt, participant of the National Liberation War, from 1941 to 1945, as one of the fighters that participated in the liberation of Sarajevo in 1945, believes that the Statehood Day, 25 November, is the most important day that should be celebrated by all the nations and ethnicities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On that day in 1943, at the First Session of ZAVNOBIH, the participants laid the foundations of the restored statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina as one of the federal units (republics) in the former Yugoslavia.

“This was the achievement of the fighters in the National Liberation War. If it were not for their struggle, there would be no ZAVNOBIH, not AVNOJ and no BiH,” said Pajt to FENA.

He added that he was sad to see that the Statehood Day is not celebrated throughout the country because all its peoples fought together from 1941 to 1945 and created a common state.

Pajt still believes that the time would come when everyone would celebrate this date.

He points out that young people today learn very scarcely about the historical period of the laying of the foundations of restored statehood of their homeland, and in his opinion, those in power are to be blamed for this.
