“I have been coming to BiH for many years and followed the events in BiH with a huge interest in the processes of establishing a strong democracy and a modern economy, under the framework formed in the Dayton peace agreeemnt’’, said Louise Slaughter, member of the Helsinki Committee of the US Congress.
“The integration of BiH to the EU and NATO is closely tied to this goal, so we must ensure that BiH is on a clear path to become an EU member’’, she explains, and also says “But, we also know, that in order to have democracy flourish and a government responsible to the citizens for its work, citizens of BiH have to actively participate in important social and political debates that are currently underway. What is more important is that the youth in BiH that will lead your country one day have to demand reform from the government and accountability counts on the work of the citizens. This is necessary in order to ensure prosperity and a progressive society in the future”.
“I appeal to the next generation in BiH to use their political rights and to call on politicians in all parties to resolve the status quo, encourage cooperation, increase efficiency and create better conditions for foreign business people to invest in our country for the benefit of all BiH citizens”, said Louise Slaugther.
The Helsinki Committee will soon organize a hearing in the American Congress devoted to the situation in our country.
This process of organization was begun by the recent visits of the President of the FBiH Živko Budimir to Washington, which was confirmed by the US Congress to “Oslobođenje”.
