Members of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (GPBIH) on Tuesday, May 30, carried out an operational action codenamed “Sava”, during which searches were carried out at seven locations in the area of Zvornik, Bihać, Cazin, Velika Kladuša and Bužim due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that five suspected persons, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, smuggled migrants.
The aforementioned persons are suspected of organizing and facilitating the illegal crossing of the state border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia and the state border between BiH and the Republic of Croatia by migrants who they knew did not meet the conditions for legal entry and stay in the territory of BiH, the Republic of Croatia and other EU countries or to abuse the visa-free regime.
They are also suspected of the criminal offense of “illegal circulation of excise goods” by which they gained significant illegal financial gain.
During the search, items were found that can be used as evidence in criminal proceedings.
Suspects were detained and questioned as suspects, and further work on this case is underway, the Border Police of BiH announced.
