It started with unusually strong “preceding stroke,” in the night of the 26th of October at 2:55 a.m. Dithering continued until 8:53 a.m. when the time stopped for Banja Luka.  Residents of Banja Luka will always remember 8 ° MCS / 6 ° Richter scale.

The earthquake in 1969 devastated the city. It took 15 lives while thousands of people were seriously or more slightly injured. Material damage was enormous. A total of 86,000 apartments was completely destroyed and enormous damage caused to schools (266), cultural (146), health (133), social and public administration management facilities (152).

The economy suffered significant losses back then. All companies worked with considerably reduced capacity after the earthquake, and some of them had to completely stop the production.

City of youth remained for the first time without it. Buses took school children from Banja Luka to other parts in order to end the school year in various parts of the former Yugoslavia.
