When recordings of the cruel execution of six Srebrenica residents in Trnovo was first shown in 2005, the whole world was speechless. Since then, every year on this day in Godinske bare the silence is interrupted only by the cries of mothers for their children, wives for their husbands, sisters for their brothers. That was the case again this year.
As in previous years, they laid flowers next to the birch tree that stands in the same place for years as the guardian of memories on the most terrible event that took place in the modern history of Europe. Rain mixed with tears and sobs because their loved ones are gone.
“Those were terrible killings. Those who did it should be ashamed to walk on the face of the earth. How would it feel to them if their children were tortured, how they would survive that? I hope that those who supported the aggression against BiH will come around, as well as those who have committed aggression against BiH, those who participated in all the crimes including genocide in this horrible crime which circled the entire world. We did not invent what has happened, it has been proven in court that crimes and genocide were committed,” said Munira Subasic, the President of the Association “Mothers of Srebrenica”.
She emphasized that all children should have the right to a childhood, youth, which is irreversible and life has no price.
“I have no one to fight for. They killed my children just because of their names. They did not took weapons from their hands. They took pens. And they did not kill only my children,” said Subasic.
For several years, the victims of this horrible crime committed by members of the notorious Scorpions wish to permanently mark this place. They encounter a number of problems, but there is improvement and mothers are hoping to lay flowers at the memorial next year.
“When I was here last year, my mother started to cry and said, ‘We had to lay the flowers next to the birch again’. These words hit me and when I came home, I formed a team and made contact with the families. We have done a model of the memorial, but we encountered problems. People who told us that they will give us the parcel are now delaying, but today a man approached to us and said that he would give us the parcel which is right across the street. We will now look for the necessary permits and our aim is to set up a monument on which would be written the word genocide, but they told us that they will not allow that, “said Omer Delic, who survived the war in Srebrenica and now lives in Switzerland.
Families laid flowers and recited surah Yasin for Azmir Alispahic (less than 16 years old), Safet Fejzic (17), Dino Salihovic (18), Juso Delic (25), Smail Ibrahimovic (35) and Sadik Salkic (36).
