Nisvet Žerić Nića has passed away. His name remains etched in the memories of many thanks to a wartime photograph that went around the world after the liberation of Sanski Most in October 1995.
The photograph shows the late Nisvet resting, exhausted from everything he had experienced, after the difficult battles for the liberation of Sanski Most in October 1995. That moment captured a part of everyday life during the war and became one of the striking testimonies of a time when people were going through the most difficult challenges in life.
Information about his death was published by the website “Sniper Alley”, with the message: “Today, Nisvet Žerić-Nića from Bihać, a fighter of the 502nd Viteška Brdska Brigade, left us.
In the photos that have traveled around the world, the late Nisvet is seen resting after the fight to liberate Sanski Most in October 1995. May eternal peace be upon you, Hero.”
Recently, an appeal was launched by the Pomozi.ba Association for blood donations for Žerić, but, unfortunately, the necessary help did not arrive in time.
His passing has reminded many of the people whose life stories have remained permanently connected to the most difficult period in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s recent history. The photo that made him recognizable around the world remains a lasting reminder of the courage, suffering and struggle of the people of that time.
