The BiH Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments declared six properties national monuments in BiH and determined that nine properties do not meet the criteria for declaring national monuments at their latest session.
At the press conference in Sarajevo Chairwoman of the Commission Liljana Ševo said that the facility of the military wartime command in Konjic with mobile heritage was declared a national monument since “it represents a unique and extremely well preserved example of military architecture from the Yugoslav era.”
“A complex has been built deep into the mountain Zlatar and it testifies about exquisite skill and art of its constructors. At the same time it has a perfectly preserved infrastructure and equipment which is almost completely functional which tells us about the quality of production and industry in SFRY,” she said.
That facility took 26 years to be constructed (from 1953 to 1979) and 4,6 billion US dollars was invested in it.
It was designed to accommodate the Chief of the Supreme Command, the Assembly, and Government in case of war risk especially in the case of a possible nuclear attack. It could accommodate 350 people.
Among properties the Commission declared national monuments at the 62nd session are also the Historic Area – Memorial complex Crna kuća – memorial to the victims of fascist terror in Kruščica in Vitez Municipality, Historic Area Zaplanik, Ravno Municipality, Architectural ensemble – Čumurija’s Tower with courts in Kute, Municipality Bileća, Historic Building – Rt kula (Kulina na rijeci Krupi) in Dračevo, Čapljina Municipality and Historic Building – the residential and business building (the former administration building of the Trade-transmission joint stock company) in Mula Mustafa Bašeskija Street No. 5.
The Commission decided at the same session that nine properties do not meet the criteria for declaring them national monuments. Those are Memorial to Victims of Fascist Terror (Vitez Municipality), Memorial to the National Hero Ranko Sipka (Vitez Municipality), Memorial to the Fallen Soldiers of WWII in residential area Mošunj (Vitez Municipality), Memorial to the Fallen Soldiers of WWII in residential area Počulica (Vitez Municipality), Memorial to the Fallen Soldiers of WWII in residential area Rijeka (Vitez Municipality), facility Sokolski dom (Sokolana) in Zenica, mosque in Grančarevo, Korejnica (Trebinje Municipality), mosque in Luka (Srebrenica Municipality), and house known as “Hadžića kula” with accompanying facilities in Luka (Konjic Municipality).
The Commission decided to put Rt kula (Kulina on Krupa River) in Čapljina Municipality and Ferhat-pašina’s Library in Banja Luka on the List of Endangered Properties. Currently there are 77 properties on that list.
The BiH Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments held the 62nd session from June 16 to 20 and members of the Commission are: Amra Hadžimuhamedović, Dubravko Lovrenović, Zeynep Ahunbay i Martin Cherry.
In the last 11 years, the Commission made 919 decisions of which 772 are positive and 147 are negative.
