The Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Forto, and the General Director of the Bosnian and Herzegovina Railway Public Corporation, Safet Sinanović, signed today an Agreement on the allocation of funds in the amount of 200,000 BAM for the development of a conceptual design with accompanying studies for the commissioning of the Una Railway, which, after years of stagnation, restarts concrete activities on this important railway route.
“The Una Railway has been talked about for decades, but without any real progress. With the signed Agreement, we are starting concrete work and creating the foundations for this railway to be seriously considered again as part of the BiH railway system,” stated Forto.
The Una Railway was once one of the most important railway connections in the country, a symbol of the connection of the western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the rest of the country and the region. However, it was neglected for years and without systematic investments, although its geographical and transport potential has never disappeared. With this agreement, the Ministry emphasized the importance of the Una Railway as a development infrastructure project.
The contract stipulates a period of 180 days for the development of a conceptual design and accompanying studies, after which the Ministry will have clear technical, financial and environmental parameters on the basis of which it will be able to make decisions on the next steps and the possible reconstruction of the Una Railway, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH announced.
