After the Ministry of Transportation of the Sarajevo Canton (KS) issued a notification for the issuance of additional taxi designations over two weeks ago in order to solve the issue of illegal taxi drivers, the work of traffic inspectors on the field has already yielded results. In 17 days of inspection supervision, 70 misdemeanor warrants amounting to over 30.000 BAM were issued.
The Ministry has made a complete track of taxi drivers and updated lists of all those who have already paid liabilities to the state and who are doing that regularly, in accordance with prescribed procedures.
Only taxi drivers with the additional taxi designation of the Sarajevo Canton displayed in a visible place in their vehicle and with “TA” license plates will be legal and authorized for performing this activity.
“Between February 26 and March 14 this year, during 232 controls conducted the inspectors have made 112 records and issued 70 misdemeanor warrants amounting to 30.800 BAM. In the mentioned period, due to identified deficiencies the inspectors excluded four vehicles from the traffic, made a decision on temporary ban of performing activity, and submitted three requests for launching misdemeanor proceedings before the relevant court,” stated the Cantonal Administration for Inspection.
Inspection supervisions of cantonal traffic inspectors are being implemented with obligatory assistance by the police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton which intervenes in possible cases of resistance from drivers being subjects of control or other types of preventing inspection bodies in performing official duty.
Relevant institutions and legal taxi drivers hope that the new measures by the Ministry of Transportation of the Sarajevo Canton will solve the problem of illegal taxi drivers, given that this problem has been present in the Sarajevo Canton for years now.
