The BiH Deputy Minister of Securtiy Mladen Ćavar spoke yesterday in Sarajevo with Severina Strohal, the Head of Operations Section for Justice, Internal Affairs and Public Administration Reform and Brigitte Kuchar, the Program Manager for Internal Affairs in the European Commission to BiH.

With a common assessment of the good cooperation between the European Commission and the BiH Ministry of Security they placed an emphasis on the planned upgrade of the system for the lawful interception of telecommunications, which should be financed by the IPA 2012.

The European Commission 2008 donated the existing system and it was a necessary technical upgrade.

The goal of the system is to train for proper monitoring of the dynamics of evidence material and the development of a telecom provider in BiH.

It was agreed that the technical specifications of the update of the underlying system will be delivered to the European Commission by mid-April, so that the system update would be implemented in accordance with the law.

Part of the discussion pertained to the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), whose realization will occur only after appropriate conditions are reached.
