grbavicaConstruction of the south longitudinal has continued in Sarajevo and works are currently in progress near the stadium Grbavica. Contractors are the consortium of domestic companies Euro-Asfalt and ŽGP. According to the Directorate for Roads of the Sarajevo Canton, 900 meters of the road will be built and deadline for completion is one year.

The biggest problems at this section of the south longitudinal are traffic and installations.

“There are many installations that need to be replaced, and utility enterprises will be in charge of that. Also, an elaborate on the change in the traffic regime is being prepared,” said Alma Zilić, expert associate in the Directorate for Roads of the KS.

Second section of the south longitudinal includes construction of the road from Hamdije Čemerlića Street to the intersection of the streets Azize Šaćirbegović and Zvornička. Three roundabouts will be built at this section, together with one underpass for pedestrians. The project costs seven million EUR and the funds were provided by EBRD loan.

Directorate for Roads of the KS and the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo have also launched construction of a roundabout in the settlement Square of Heroes, at the intersection of the streets Porodice Ribar and Aleja lipa. Namely, due to the construction of the south longitudinal, the citizens will not be able to use the parking space behind the Loris building and that is why a roundabout will be built at the Aquare of Heroes. The Municipality of Novo Sarajevo stated that the works should last for more than a month. Within this project, a new connection to the parking space will also be made and the construction of a roundabout at the intersection will significantly unburden the traffic and enable increased flow of vehicles through the intersection. This investment is worth 290.000 BAM.
