More Than 200 Media Outlets Demand Protection For Palestinian Journalists In The Gaza Strip

More than 200 international media outlets have demanded protection for Palestinian journalists and an end to Israeli impunity for crimes committed against them.

“We demand protection for Palestinian journalists and an end to impunity for the crimes committed by the Israeli army against them in the Gaza Strip,” said 257 media outlets in more than 50 countries gathered by the campaign platform “Avaaz” and Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

The media involved in the campaign also called for independent access for foreign media to the Gaza Strip and the urgent evacuation of journalists who want to leave.

“At the rate at which the Israeli army is killing journalists in Gaza, soon there will be no one left to inform you,” they wrote.

The group also called for strong action by the international community and urged the United Nations (UN) Security Council to stop the crimes of the Israeli army against Palestinian journalists.

In less than 23 months, the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip has killed 220 journalists.

Since October 2023, Israel has killed nearly 63.500 Palestinians in Gaza. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.

Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide lawsuit before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
