More than 236,000 Canadians signed a Petition to revoke Elon Musk’s Citizenship

More than 236,000 Canadians have signed a petition calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to revoke the citizenship of billionaire Elon Musk.

The petition, launched by British Columbia’s Qualia Reed and sponsored by New Democratic Party (NDP) MP Charlie Angus, claims that Musk has “engaged in activities that are contrary to the national interest of Canada.”

Noting that Musk, a key ally of US President Donald Trump, has “used his wealth and power to influence our elections,” the petition claims that Musk is “a member of a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty.”

“We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call on the Prime Minister to revoke Elon Musk’s dual citizenship status and immediately revoke his Canadian passport,” it said.

Responding to the petition, Musk said late Monday that “Canada is not a real country.”

Musk, born in South Africa, became a Canadian citizen through his mother, who was born in Saskatchewan.

So far, 236,123 Canadians have signed an online petition that will be presented to the House of Commons on June 20.

Trump has repeatedly reiterated his desire to absorb Canada into the United States as its 51st state and has threatened to impose tariffs on Canadian products.
