More than 60 Representatives of the European Parliament requested immediate Action against Israel

More than 60 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have called for an urgent meeting to take action against Israel, according to a letter sent to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Thursday.

Marc Botenga, a Belgian MEP from the Left Group, posted on the X platform that they had approached Kallas with a request to immediately convene an extraordinary meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council with the aim of proposing concrete measures against Israel.

“We are writing to you today and demand urgent action, given the appalling humanitarian situation in Gaza and the continued Israeli attacks on Palestinians in aid distribution areas, which have so far resulted in the deaths of more than 1,000 people,” the MEPs said.

They added that a recent aid deal between the EU and Israel had not brought “any concrete changes” on the ground, stressing that while children are starving, the EU is responding with “weak words and no actions.”

MEPs called for a full package of sanctions against Israel, sanctioning the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and individuals within the organisation, proposing measures following the revision of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, and putting pressure on member states to impose a mutual arms embargo.

“Every day without action is another day that Palestinians in Gaza starve or are killed. Action must be taken now,” they concluded, Federalna writes.
