Photographer from Jablanica Dženad Džino revealed in a post on Facebook that while working on a project with the Tourist Board of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton in a cave at the foot of Mount Velež, together with the Civil Protection of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he found a large number of shells from the Second World War.

As he explained in the announcement, after completing the filming of his project, he met members of Civil Protection who received information from tourists from Great Britain that there was a grenade from this period in the cave.

“I went down with the guys from FUCZ and somewhere 40 meters into the cave we actually found an Italian BRIXIA 45 mm grenade from the Second World War. There are also several smaller depressions in the cave, like pockets inside, and in one of them, when I shined the light with my mobile phone, I saw a signal German bullet,” wrote Džino.
He went on to explain that he entered this depression and found a huge number of shells from the Second World War.

“An entire room inside was full of grenades. After the FUCZ A team from Mostar took everything out, we counted more than 730 BRIXIA 45 mm grenades, 60 mm Brandt grenades, 75 mm grenades, hand grenades and grenade lighters. In a conversation with Ivica, a FUCZ pyrotechnician, he told me that this is the largest UXO find from World War II since 1999, since this team exists,” he stated.

In the end, he called the scene and the whole situation an incredible experience.

“Whether it was a partisan warehouse that was forgotten over time, or whether one of the locals once put it in and hid it, we will probably never know. Thanks to the guys from FUCZ, the cave is now safe and waiting for all those who want to visit it,” said the photographer from Jablanica.
