More than a Thousand Volunteers in Jablanica Villages

It is still very difficult in Jablanica. Two more bodies of flood victims were found in the area of Konjica and Jablanica. Rescue teams will continue their search for the missing. However, hope is given by the people and all those who come to these areas on a self-organized basis for days. Unfortunately – united mostly in trouble, in a disunited state.

More than a thousand volunteers from Sarajevo, Zenica, Kakanj, Mostar, Konjic, Olovo and numerous other cities were dispatched in the villages around Jablanica. They came to try to alleviate the consequences suffered by these locals. In disbelief, they say, they look at this scale of the disaster, which, they claim, cannot be conveyed by pictures and videos.

“When you watch it on a mobile phone, it’s nothing until you see it live. When we arrived, it was unbelievable. We came to help as much as we can”.

“These floods that happened – I’m really sorry. We should help each other”.

“We clean the mud that got into the house – as much as possible. It will take a long time for all of this to be repaired and passed.”

The long journey to this part of Herzegovina was not a problem for them either.

“I came with the team from Bihać. We’re here to help. Today we are here all day, so as much as we can – we will help”.

And that everyone really came to the aid of the victims in Jablanica, according to the information of the Federal Administration of Civil Protection that this morning eight buses with volunteers arrived in this municipality. It is commendable, they say, that everyone came with the necessary equipment for field rehabilitation. However, the appeal for trucks was also sent today.

“At this moment, we have the greatest need for combined machines, for trucks – I will use the opportunity to appeal to all those who can meet such things, to give them to us for a few days until we solve this situation with the material here”, said Sabahudin Spahović, representative of FUCZ.

Although the villages were cut off, some kind of road communication was established. There is a special traffic regime for the M17 road – vehicles are allowed to pass through this section from 19:00 in the evening until 7:00 in the morning. This regime is in effect until all missing persons are found. Many villages in Jablanica still have problems with road communication, while the electricity supply has been resolved. Drinking water is still a problem, but that is solved by the residents of Jablanica, who from day one provide everything their fellow citizens need.

“I have been with my volunteers from the first second – here, I am with them on the ninth day. Everything this village needs – I am available 24 hours a day. The village has about 80 households. We have three water points. Water was delivered to everyone, they were provided with food and everything else they needed,” said Fadil Đuliman from the village of Zlate.

Cleaning and search operations will continue in the following days. The damages will continue to add up for a long time, and according to the estimates so far – they are more than 50 million marks, Federalna writes.
