Reis-ul-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović commented on the occasion of the attack on the Islamic Cultural Center of Bosniaks in Bielefeld. He condemned this act of vandalism but stressed his confidence in German institutions:
“The Islamic community in BiH and its members are horrified with the news about the attack on a mosque and Islamic center in the German city of Bielefeld. We are especially concerned because the imam (the person who leads a prayer in the mosque) was in the house when the fire broke out and that his life was in danger.
At the same time, we have a full confidence in the legal institutions of Germany, and that the perpetrators will be found and prosecuted. Especially, we appreciate the support of the citizens and officials of friendly Germany, who stood by the Bosniak Muslim community in these difficult moments.
I personally urge members of the Islamic community not to allow to be intimidated by violent minorities and not to fall for provocations. Moreover, I ask from the Muslims in Germany to continue to contribute to the economic, cultural and social development of Germany, and to keep us true ambassadors of Islam and Bosniak tradition. Isolationism and mistrust are the biggest challenges for all of us in Europe and the world and we need to jointly engage in this fight.
This attack, as well as the one in Canada’s Quebec, warn us on the Islamophobia and rhetorics made by people who follow it and sowing distrust towards Muslims. It scares us to know that we are witnessing the rise of what might be called anti-Muslim terrorism that is based on the hatred against Muslims, “said Reis-ul-Ulema Kavazović.
