museumThe Museum of War Childhood was opened in the synagogue in Zenica last night and the visitors have the opportunity to visit it in the next four days.

Only a part of objects belonging to the Museum of War Childhood was displayed in Zenica last night. A magic wand, glasses, toys and many other objects evoked memories of the war in the people of Zenica.

Museum of War Childhood is the continuation of the book “Childhood in War” which consists of memories of over one thousand people. Museum of War Childhood was opened in May this year in Sarajevo, and its first visiting point was Zenica, last night.

Initiator of the project, Jasminko Halilović, told the visitors that the Museum of War Childhood possesses over 3.000 objects and that it will have its permanent exhibition once an adequate space is provided.

Message of this exhibition is that every child was a victim of war, said Drew Giblin, representative of the US Embassy in Sarajevo, who was a guest at the event.

Lejla Osmanić, curator of the museum in Zenica, stated at the opening that she is glad that the exhibition attracted a large number of guests.

“When we perceive childhood and war in our heads, those things do not go together, but this exhibition presents emotional stories, personal stories, and that is what makes this the most important thing. This is the best way to build a collective identity and memory. I am glad that one such project exists and it is important for children and generations to come to learn more about the food that people ate, toys that children played with, and other things,” Osmanić said.

The exhibition will be opened on June 19 from 11 am until midnight, while on June 20 and 21 it will be opened from 6 pm until midnight.
