Talgo trains, purchased by Railways of FBiH in 2015 through a commodity loan from the Government of Spain and which cost this state enterprise 132 million BAM (66.7 million EUR), will operate on the BiH railways after all, for the first time since their delivery in 2010.
Talgo trains are currently being tested by experts from the Spanish company “Talgo”. Railways of FBiH, namely, work at full capacity in order to put the Talgo trains into operation already in July, on the routes Sarajevo-Zagreb and Sarajevo-Banja Luka.
Director Executive of Railways of FBiH Rifat Čabrić said that “Talgo technicians are already in Sarajevo and currently performing a technical examination of trains”, and that the necessary traffic permits have already been obtained in Croatia.
When the testing is complete, a promotional ride will be organized where numerous invitees will be invited, including members of the BiH Presidency.
Previously this enterprise confirmed that they have obtained all necessary traffic permits in BiH and Croatia and that upon the completion of the remount of the south railway these trains would also operate on the route Sarajevo-Ploče. Currently in progress are negotiations on the rental of five Talgo trains to the Railways of Turkey, while the remaining four would be put into operation in BiH.
Of the nine purchased trains, five are day trains and four are night trains. These contemporary trains, which are used throughout Europe, are well-equipped and also possess showers, TVs, and Internet access.
