The new agreement between Russia and North Korea includes military assistance in case of aggression against one of these countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a news conference in Pyongyang after his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, which was broadcast live on the Kremlin’s website, Putin said security and international issues were significant topics of today’s talks.

“The comprehensive partnership agreement signed today foresees, among other things, mutual assistance in case of aggression against one of the parties to this agreement,” Putin said.

The Russian president emphasized that this document lays the foundations for military cooperation between the two countries.

Kim Jong-un said the agreement was “peaceful, defensive in nature,” adding that it would accelerate the establishment of a multipolar world.

“This powerful treaty is nothing but a document of a truly constructive, promising, exclusively peaceful and defensive nature, designed to protect and defend the basic interests of the peoples of the two countries. I have no doubt that it will become a driving force for accelerating the establishment of a new multipolar world,” he emphasized.

The North Korean leader also described the agreement as an important document that will lay the foundation for future cooperation between the two countries, including economic, political and military issues, AA writes.
