Nanic and Kudelic acquitted of Crimes in Buzim

The Appellate Chamber of the State Court has handed down a final verdict acquitting Zijad Nanić and Esad Kudelić of charges of war crimes against civilians and prisoners of war in Bužim in 1994 and 1995.

In its reasoning for the verdict, the Appellate Chamber stated that in the retrial, the Prosecution failed to prove the command responsibility of the accused.

The indictment charged Nanić in his capacity as Assistant Commander for Security of the 505th Bužim Brigade of the Fifth Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kudelić as Commander of the Military Police Platoon in the Command of the 505th Bužim Brigade.

The Appellate Chamber had previously overturned the verdict from March last year in relation to Nanić and Kudelić, accepting the appeals of the Defense. The verdict in relation to the other six accused was confirmed.

Their trial began in March 2016.

This verdict is not subject to appeal, BIRN BiH reports.
