NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana is on a two-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Members of the North Atlantic Council (NAC), led by Geoan, met with members of the BiH Presidency, Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović, as part of their visit to Sarajevo.
Bećirović stated that NATO’s message is that the security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the interest of the Alliance, and that BiH belongs to European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
“I am very encouraged after this meeting, the Deputy Secretary General and the ambassadors of NATO countries have undoubtedly said that they firmly stand behind Bosnia and Herzegovina, its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. And they all very clearly said that they strongly condemn any call to secession and endangering the sovereignty and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Bećirović.
He added that he pointed out the strategic goals of Bosnia and Herzegovina – full membership in the NATO alliance and the European Union.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina is not neutral, Bosnia and Herzegovina is determined. This is the decision of the state authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and everyone must know that. The legal framework of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is clear. The state authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina have adopted all the necessary legal, strategic and conceptual documents in the field of defense and security,” said Bećirović.
He reminded of all the laws, policies, statements and decisions made in the previous period, stating that BiH accepted the criteria and through participation in the MAP and is working on their fulfillment.
The meeting with the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, and members of the Council is planned for the afternoon.
