At the summit in Madrid, NATO leaders and member states adopted a number of documents concerning the future of this organization, and in several parts the Western Balkans and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are mentioned.
Nevertheless, what was adopted yesterday at the summit in Madrid can be defined as the complete opposite of the announcements from Croatia, which again tried to impose in Madrid the story of the importance of the constituency of the people in BiH.
Namely, before the start of the NATO summit in Madrid, Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic Radman said that Croatian diplomacy had prepared all materials for President Milanovic regarding the summit and the Strategic Concept, which was adopted at yesterday‘s session.
“Grlic Radman said that Croatian diplomacy prepared ‘all materials and background information’ for the president. He added that they ‘fought’ to include references to the security of the Western Balkans and the necessity of equality of all constituent peoples in BiH in the Strategic Concept,” the media reported in Croatia.
Still, if we analyze the declaration adopted at the summit in Madrid, but also the Strategic Concept that determines the next 10 years of the alliance, in no part is the constitutivity of the people in BiH mentioned.
When it comes to the declaration, BiH is mentioned twice in parts 14 and 17 of the declaration.
“We met here in Madrid with many NATO partners. We welcomed the engagements with the Foreign Ministers of Jordan and Mauritania as well as with the Minister of Defense of BiH. In light of the changed security environment in Europe, we decided on new measures to strengthen political and practical support to partners, including BiH, Georgia and Moldova, “ the declaration said.
When it comes to the Strategic Concept, BiH is directly mentioned in Article 41, which deals with cooperation with partner countries.
“The security of countries aspiring to become members is intertwined with our security. We strongly support their independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. We will strengthen political dialogue with those aiming to join the Alliance. We will continue to develop our partnerships with BiH, Georgia, and Ukraine to improve of our common interest in the Euro-Atlantic area, ” concludes the part of the Strategic Concept, Klix.ba writes.
