Negotiations on electoral Reform in BiH remain without concrete Results

A new round of negotiations on changes to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was completed yesterday in Sarajevo without a specific agreement. Negotiations were taking place in the building of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to BiH, with the mediation of EU representatives Angelina Eichhorst and the new United States (U.S.) Ambassador to BiH Michael Murphy.

Djonlagic and Arnaut: Integrity package conditioned by agreement on an electric model.

After the negotiations on changes to the Election Law of BiH, the Vice President of the Democratic Front (DF), Dzenan Djonlagic, assessed that any model of the unequal value of votes is unacceptable.

Negotiations that started on Friday morning were conducted between representatives of BiH political parties, led by the Ambassador of the U.S. Michael Murphy and the Director of the European External Action Service Angelina Eichhorst.

“Part of the talks we had about the integrity of the election process was conditioned by the Croatian Democratic Union to introduce a story about the election of members of the Central Election Commission (CEC). Another obstacle is that we do not have political representatives from SNSD, because they hold a control package in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly (PABiH) and that decision cannot pass without their vote, ” explained Djonlagic.

Radoncic: Some progress has been made

”A lot has been done that leads to a solution, there is progress, we have clarified a lot of issues and problems, we have a lot of agreement and I expect that we will find some solutions,” said the president of the Union for a Better Future Fahrudin Radoncic after the second day of negotiations on the Election Law in the EU Delegation building in Sarajevo.

“I expect that we will continue negotiations tomorrow. It is very good that people from Brussels are here, that we have a new U.S. ambassador who brings new strength with him. We must reach a solution. The pressure is greatest on Covic and Izetbegovic,” Radoncic pointed out on Friday.

The President of the People and Justice (Narod i Pravda), Elmedin Konakovic, pointed out yesterday that there was a “slight relaxation of the most radical attitudes and some progress”.

“The famous sentence remains that nothing has been agreed until everything is agreed,” Konakovic explained.

He stressed that the atmosphere was better than at the negotiations in Neum.

“These are too big things, there is pressure from all sides, especially those who would not like to see the change in this country,” Konakovic stated.

Negotiations continued yesterday at noon.

Meetings of political leaders are being held with the mediation of EU representative Angelina Eichhorst and the new U.S.Ambassador to BiH, Michael Murphy.
