Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer said in Sarajevo yesterday that Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Austria must be partners and cooperate in the challenges they will face.
”Now we are in a situation, both BiH and Austria, to face the pandemic and the crisis due to the conflict in Ukraine, we will face the consequences of the war, and that is the high prices of energy, food, which requires our good cooperation, solidarity in order to take care of the future together, ” Nehammer said after talks with BiH Council of Ministers Chairman Zoran Tegeltija.
He stated at the press conference that the future was discussed, that BiH and Austria must work together on that and see how BiH can become the European Union (EU) member, to become a partner, and progress together.
The Austrian Chancellor emphasized that his country wants thatall the countries of the Western Balkans cooperate, be treated as partners, and achieve joint progress.
”We must have a fair approach in facing and acting against the challenges that are ahead of us, to have a common will to solve them together. The challenges that concern us are not decreasing, but they are growing,” Nehammer said.
In that sense, he told, BiH knows it has a good friend in Austria.
He reminded that he had previously come to BiH as the Minister of Security and that the topic was the cooperation between BiH and Austria in the field of security, which, as he said, was and remained excellent.
”BiH has a very important role in the issue of migration and is an important partner of the EU when it comes to security,”Nehammer emphasized.
He pointed out that BiH and Austria are connected by close relations due to a large number of BiH citizens who are integrated citizens of Austria.
”Austria has advocated for the territorial integrity and independence of BiH. Such an approach and attitude was taken 30 years ago and nothing has changed since then,” Nehammer concluded.
